View Full Version : 3d model to height map.. need advice
CHAIN 04-16-2007, 07:48 PM 4 or 5 years ago i've made a terrain for one virtual world.. their engine at that time did'nt support terrain feature,so i made a modular ground from many pieces in LW,and wrote a script for conversion. For now engine support terrain and i need to get bmp file with elevations. i can get one file from this pieces in any 3d format. any suggestions, how can i create height map from this? and sorry for my english)

Most renderers can give you z-depth information. So just render the terrain from the top as z-depth, and use that as your heightmap. I used to do it all the time for "exporting" heightmaps from Bryce to other applications.
