View Full Version : Maya Dynamics Sticky thread \ seperate forum.
SheepFactory 03-10-2003, 07:19 PM Hi Guys ,
How many of you would be interested in a seperate Sticky Thread \ forum dealing with dynamics?
Also feel free to post any suggestions in this thread.
I feel like we need to organize the maya forum a bit.
And Please Vote! , Its really sad when a thread has 300 views and 17 votes. Remember we are trying to make this a better place for you guys. So let us know what you think.

I've had some tutorials in mind for dynamics but as usual they have been deprioritized.

Yes that would be very nice.
I'm still beginner in maya and i found dynamics very interesting but a bit hard to learn because it's a very large sector in maya.
It's a very different part than other things like modeling, texturing...

sure, Im new to Maya and learning,,,,well,, everything, so I'd say great.
Not too familar with Maya yet, so I'm not sure if this forum is missing anything, but the more knowledge threads the better.

can vBulletin create sub forums ? - i think i've seen this somehwere
something like
CG Talk > 3D Application Specific Forums > Maya > Dynamics
anyway, great idea - and i wouldn't mind one on mental-ray either - sure there's highend3d - but cgtalk is fast and has a pretty high frequency
i'm in

maybe more like the comp forums????
http://www.cgtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=76
not sure how presets, shaders, surfaces work, or if you can make them and svae them out as a file, but It would be cool to share presets.
I've seen the node shaders paths, still working on figuring that out;.

I did that for Highend3d.com and it really sorts things out much better and we've been getting fewer miscategorized questions..of course here there is just one Maya forum to choose from currently.

hopefully highend3d will get rid of the scripts that lock the browser (at least that's true for IE6) for 3-5 seconds everytime a new page has finished loading

Huh?? It'd be nice it people would post these kind of problems on the board or report them to me.. so we can do something about it..I had no idea. I just tried IE 6 and you are correct there is a lag there.. I will pass this on.

I think having our own dynamics forum would be great.
dynamics related threads tend to be more technical or scripting-related than most others. the chance to get a discussion when trying to solve a problem would be far greater when posting such a thread to a speicfic dynamics forum.
i;d suggest putting up a dynamics/particles forum under the tecnique section so users from different packages can benefit from each others tricks to do certain fx. also users can learn about problem-solving in other packages in general (i'd love to hear how things are done in houdini :)
for the forum! :buttrock:

i really think that the whole maya forum is very confusing right now. so we have a whole bunch of sticky threads, and 4 new "sub" forums. i have to click it all through to look at all, that takes a long time.
alexx
03-12-2003, 06:28 PM
come on sven :)
i thought you have the time to click through all since you have to render a second pass ;)
really: it is way more clicking than before but i like it somehow..
at least it looks cleaner
cheers & thanx

We had to implement this due to the amount of traffic in this forum. A new thread posted went to the second page faster than you had a chance to reply to it.
Also this makes it easier for everyone to find posts related to specific areas of maya.

ok, you're right my actual render time gives me more spare time :) but the actual amount is so huge that it's a nightmare or something to read that all.
maybe we could have the "pro" subforum we talked about alex

yeah.. and everybody who asks in there how to render a wireframe gets decaptated, quartered, burned, drowned where the water most dirty and stumped on the remains :)

how about a "new to maya" forum for all the newbies' needs
roguenroll

Yeah a noob forum would be nice, I find when I'm learning in concert with the manual, tutes, and the books I have , its nice to be able to pop in a get a quick answer without the standard, RTFM. I do read the FM. but this is a community and I would like to interact with the other Maya folks, especially in our struggling
few first steps.

I'm in..
I'd visit a forum / thread that covered that subject. It happens to be my weakest so i could use the advice.

ya sure that whould be cool.
There should also definatly be a Modeling on as well
or another forum topic thing.
like there is already a Dynamics, Rendering, Char setup, and MEL.
so it would be nice if there were a modeling one as well and even animation.
:surprised

i agree. i submitted a dynamics question i posted sometime to the general maya forum to the new dynamics sub-forum and got good answers.
splitting up threads is a good idea. it helps to get answers as people who actually _know_ how to do certain things are more likely to read your post.
