I need to create procedural textures of rock and lava inside of 3DS Max 8. Any ideas or tutorials on how to go about this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd also recommend looking to darktree procedurals http://www.darksim.com they have some excellent rocks and such right out of the gate.

Simbiont Max (darktree's max plugin) is free, and you can d/l all the sample procedurals from Darksim's library for free too. It lets you edit the basic params inside Max, but you're just limited to whatever the DarkTree artist setup for that procedural. There are a ton of free procedural maps and procedural materials.

Ummm.....3ds max 8 already has a default Lava between cracked rocks texture......That could be a place to start, see how they make it, and then just mimic it in your own way.....Just a though.
