how is that actually achieved? i use 3ds max with brazil and vray and i cant get the same sharp glow effect or radiosity off my scenes or characters. does it have something to do with HDR lighting or some really beefed up spec maps or a combo of both? much appreciated if someone give a hint, thanks.

The glow is something you normally do in post. Just crank down the levels curve until everything is dark except the highlights, blur the result, and add it over the original layer. Adjust saturation and levels to taste and you're done.

i thought so. its just amazing that they can do the same effect in real time in the unreal engine. yeah i usually render out in layers and in png sequences and use after effects to compile them all together, maybe then i could render out the specularity off the scenes and add from blur and bump up the levels or something. thanks
