View Full Version : Particles along path
BadG3r 04-16-2007, 12:28 PM Hey everyone!
Is there a way to create a motion path for particles, but w/o curve flow?
Thx in advance,

Do you mean something like this?

Or something simple?
What particles need to do?
There was a script called "follow" which does sort of similar thing, particles which follow the curve, but it's a bit different, maybe better for what you need, writen by mbaer, from AW.
I don't know if I'm allowed to put it here... Found it:

Let me know if it's working for you...
There was also nmcurveField by Colin Doncaster, but I can't find it on the web or highend3d.

Hey thank you.
The first one wasn't working for me. Im seeking something else.
The script (follow) won't work. It keeps saying "can't find procedure doFollow".
Looked at the script and it is in there. But my mel skills are decent, so don't know how to fix it.
The object flies around and shall emit particles on a predefined way.
I worked around it by making the curve dynamic (hair) and constraint it to the object and all the other points as well (transform constraint). Curve is a goal. over a expr. I sended them along the curve but at the beginning they jump on it instead of getting a steady flow?? any guess to fix that?
thx in advance.
Please find atached the script which should work. It's not 100 percent cleaned up, but I think you can have a go...
I'm not sure how you made particles to go down the curve, with curve flow?
On this kind of setups you need to be carefull about two things: that you don't double the transformations, and that when you creating additional setup you don't erase history, or that you don't try to add new stuff on already busy channels. So when you add curve flow, or if you use follow, watch out for errors.
For your error is hard to tell without the scene, but try changing smoothes on the goal.
