View Full Version : fundamental transform/locator freeze trans and parenting

I have created an empty group to basically act as a null. I have the selection handle displayed. I have moved it into place over a cluster. When I parent the cluster to the null it immediately flys off (as it looks like it inherits the tranform vals).

1. Is there a better approach for this?
2. If I freeze the transformations on the null before parenting, the selection handle return to world center.
3. I didn't use a locator because I didn't think that I would need the shape node (cause I was just going to use the selection handle)... does using a locator help in this situation?
4. When I freeze the transformations on a locator (that has been scaled down to display properly), the display shape shoots back up to its original scale. I am assuming that you can adjust this display but I want to make sure that I have the correct approach first... hence question #1 (as I am doing a lot of this through scripting)

OK - I see part of why this is happening now. Before when I created the clusters, "relative" was off. Now that they are on, they fly off.

But here is what I still don't understand. The null has translation values something like this:
x = 1
y = 5
z = 0

When I parent the cluster to the null, the translation vals for the cluster change to:
x = -1
y = -5
z = 0

I am not understanding that.
