View Full Version : FX in slow motion.
nosrac 04-16-2007, 03:44 AM hi all,
would like to know what's the best way to do the FX with slow motion. Is time-remap of the FX elements in compositing the best flexible way? Or there are other better ways?

fx created in a 3d app or elements shot?

the FX is done in Maya or 3ds sth. if simply tune the dynamics for the slow motion, it's not that flexible if the speed of the shot changes from time to time. So prefer to work out the dynamics in normal speed in say Maya, and then do some time re-map sth on that later on. But don't know whether it's the best way in this case. Any suggestion?!

It may or may not work. Really depends the elements. Personally I would actually render the speed you need and not retime it in post. You can just have the effect playback at a faster rate in maya or play ever X frame to see it in real time.

If you are using Maya (not sure if other apps may do this) you can remap time within the simulations.
If you open the Rigid Solver in the Attribute Editor and scroll down, you will see (in there somewhere, sorry I don't have Maya on this computer, so I can't check) theres actually a time mapping input. By default Time is mapped to Time. You can actually remap time in there and get your simulations to still come out fine.
If you are remapping time in post, it would be ideal to render out enough frames for the slowest time-rate. For example, if you are remapping time to as slow as 50%, you need to render out by 0.5 frames, instead of the default 1.0.
Hope that maybe helps. Goodluck.
