Don't forget the new Final Cut Server (http://www.apple.com/finalcutserver/) :D

Damn... I'm loving the new Motion 3 features. I'm wondering to what extent 3D is supported in Motion. I think it would be pretty neat if you could import obj files and use them as proxy assets to do some quick compositing functions around.
On top of that, I'm really looking forward to Soundtrack Pro 2 and Color. Just seeing that there is an extra 25+GB of additional audio content for Soundtrack Pro 2 and surround sound mixing makes the $550 CDN upgrade price worth it right there... :D

I wonder if Conduit will still work in Motion 3.

I'm confident there will be an update to ensure compatibility pretty quickly.

In the new Final Cut Studio:
Motion (the compositing app) gains 3D space.
A new app called Color is released (used for professional color grading)
Final Cut Pro gains the ability to mix and match video resolutions on the one timeline.
A new video codec is released, called ProRes422, which allows greater compression of HD material.

Well this will most likely put a finish to my adobe days aside from photoshop. I have loved and used motion for so long I already was barely using AFX. Now with 3D there really isn't much more I need AFX for and I've never been a fan of the rest of the Adobe Suite.
FCS 2.0 is far better then I even imagined! FCS was already the best suite of software I've ever used and now they add Color and more? I can't believe the pricetag : )
Whats going on with Livetype though? I must have missed something...

I just saw this today at NAB and all I can say is WOW.
Soundtrack Pro is all visual and non audio people can really use it now.
New Motion features are badass. No importing or exporting 3d models or camera though :( The thing is motion uses an XML ascii text file format, so writing a plugin for this should be easy.
Color, wow oh wow.

That does look very nice, my mate just bought a Mac Pro/FC Studio bundle and I'm very tempted to do the same.

I didn't know you could get a bundle. What, 8-core Mac + Final Cut Studio?

Sorry, I just meant he bought them all at the same time - and it was the old 2xdual core Mac Pro.
Not sure if he got as a whole package.

LiveType (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/livetype.html) is still there, as is Cinema Tools (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/cinematools.html).

A quick hint for getting FC Studios 2 at a discount. If you or someone else has an old copy of Soundtrack or Motion back when they sold it individually, you can upgrade that to the full Studio for $699. I've seen people selling their old copies of these apps for cheap.

what about dvdsp?
I tried to upgrade my FCP3 Educational Version once but it was a no go...
I've got the full studio now but I have DVDSP sitting here useless on its own... I could go for a second FCS so I can have it running on 2 desktops and 2 laptops : )
(legally that is...LOL)

The studio is going to be released next month. Right now the only spot you can try it out is at the classroom in the Apple booth at NAB.
After the conference, Apple is doing an eight city tour for the studio. You might be able to try it out then.

does finalcut pro now support image seqences [ones with alpha such as png] native and not have to rely on making a quicktime pro reference mov?

Not sure about this. I know there are tools like Gluetools to get this ability with dpx/cin file sequences.

If your truly meaning Motion 2 and not Final Cut Studio 2's Motion 3 then yes. Here's a link to the demo:

Enjoy : )

As far as I know it always has. Here is a detailed explanation of it vs premier on this matter:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=59&t=447330&page=2&highlight=Final+Cut+Pro+image
(see my extremely long post on the bottom)
All you do is create a folder with your image sequence in it and import that folder into final cut pro. If thats not supporting them I don't know what is.
See an even more detailed explanation in the final cut pro manual I-316.
Hope this helps : )

NAB was great this year for Apple and disappointing for others... Like Avid. I have been a big Avid fan but for too many years I have been wanting more and ignoring Apple, and I think it is time to switch my studio's editing over. I have been shooting Dual Link 4:4:4 for a while now and Avid only has one product to do so, and they really didn't even develop it but bought it!
Anyway, don't be brand loyal, buy todays tools for today's projects.
