Hi-

I was wondering if anyone had a good idea on how to get that great look that some folks using other packages get with their modeled eyes.

I noticed that they get the iris to be sort of pearlescent like mother of pearl so that when light hits the iris it really comes to life.

Any ideas?

i would like to know that too.
also the wet edge look where the eye meets the eye lid. and in the corner of the eye. How do you go about doing that?
My eyes still look very flat and cartoon like.

HDRI does miracles on the reflections, making them look much more lively.
The wet edge between eye and eyelid is probably a modelled in edge with a reflective material.

HDRI is cool...but I am really looking for the Iris part, not the specular on the whole eye.

Y'know what I mean?

that is a really good, clear Tut...thanks.

I will find the tutorial that I saw in this forum, that I think was for Maya, about getting that one extra touch that nobody in these max tutorials has mentioned. It is that pearlescence that I was mentioning.

Once I find it, maybe we can decipher it into Max speak?

good idea. the tutorial is good, but is lacking in terms of the iris.

ivo D I used that tutorial a while ago to create my eyes. What's great about it is you really only need to make the photoshop file once. If you want a different texture just mess with some color and the other values and vuala. The technique that's used is also very good for making skin. Something else that should be mentioned when you build the eyes it's nice to put in a little refratcion on the transparent lense. You'll notice once you look at the eye from a side view your cornea will just be clear. Refraction will fix this so your pupil and iris can be seen from all views.

I have been thinking about it a bunch, and reading the other "eye" threads.

I think that I might understand what I need for the effect I am looking for.

Perhaps a bump map, luminence map and a hard specular map on the iris will get me the irridescence that I am looking for. All of these replies have been helpful, but none really get to what I was looking for.

I will do a test and see what happens...and post it when I finish :)
