Could someone tell me how they would take a 2d dxf file and change it into a 3d object using cinema 4d,truespace, vectorworks or carrara. I would also like to know how to model an eyebrow dormer on a 14:12 pitch roof! Would one lay out the framing for this and then create the roof and ceiling structure. Articles on eyebrow dormers can be downloaded for a small price from both http://www.jlconline.com/cgi- bin/jlconline.storefront/3e6cbdb400408f80271a401e1d29067a/Product/View/0103raism or http://www.taunton.com/store/fharchive/index.asp. I have attached a picture of an eyebrow dormer in jpeg format. I was not able to attach the dxf file! It can be found at http://forum.caligari.com/discus/messages/1580/10813.html?1047280091 Thanks,Brent Kjernisted

Hi Brent,

Can't answer for Truespace or Carrara.

I tried to open your DXF in C4D, but this didn't work - probably because it's 2D.

Opening it in VectorWorks did work. Changing it to3D is actually pretty easy, and creating the roof isn't too difficult as well when you use NURBS.

But: this forum is not really the right place to discuss Vectorworks Modeling. May I suggest you take this discussion to the VectorWorks forum over at www.architosh.com? I'll be glad to be of help overthere.

Cheers,
BaRa
