This should be a fun challenge. Here's what I've got so far. I started in Zbrush and then brought the model into 3D max 9 for some test renderings.
I've got all the old Bruce Lee films for reference. Wish I had a huge highly detailed picture for the face though.
The face still needs work so please post any comments you may have.
I'm using the SSS Fast Skin shader in Mental Ray with Max 9 in this render:
I should have an update ready within the next few days.

Looks great so far! I was gonna try Bruce myself.....if I ever get Conan done.

Got another small update on the modeling. Seems like it still needs a few adjustments but it's getting closer.
I think I need to make some tests with the hair now. Doesn't look like bruce at all when he's bald.

Here's an update with some hair added in. Rendered in mr prim mode with only around 6000 hairs just to see how it looks.

Here's an update on texturing. I should probably move forward with modeling and texturing the rest of the body now though. I can make final adjustments later.

Here's an update on the modeling progress for Lee. The head, hands, torso and lower body are all separate objects here, I just blurred the spots where they aren't connected. I'm going to attach everything, texture the torso and detail/texture the pants. The arms need to be made to look like Bruce Lee's as they just have the basic form of an arm right now.
Hair was just quickly painted in here just to see how it's coming along. Still lots of work to do.

Went back to do some more work on the likeness of the face before moving on. Please let me know what you think.
is it just me or are the hands seem a bit off ?, just a thought, very nice job dude ill be watching this thread for updates

Just the cut marks aren't 3D right now, they were just quickly drawn in. I'm thinking of doing a scene with some nunchucks too once this is done, hopefully there's enough time.

Well, it looks like I'm not going to have enough time to finish this by tomorrow. I'll finish it some other time. I've got a few other deadlines due tomorrow. It was a fun challenge though. Good luck to everyone.

I used normal maps for the pants, hands and upper body. For the face I decided to use a high-res export from Zbrush instead of normal or displacement maps.http://members.shaw.ca/palindromebooks/wire05.jpg

This was a great project to work on and develop my character modeling and texturing skills. This has really helped me to push the limits with my skills in character modeling and texturing. There is still room for improvement though. Thanks to this challenge I was motivated to create Lee from Enter The Dragon.

A Perfect Stance
A stance too narrow provides you speed, But leaves you imbalance which you don't need.

The Mighty Feet
If you are adept with you feet, probably, you are hard to beat.
'Cause you can keep your foe at bay with powerful kicks that can slay.
The shin-kick can stop an attack while the side-kick can break his back.

Jeet Kune Do
Jeet Kune Do was founded by Bruce Lee because he felt the martial arts were too confined.
You can't fight in pattern he used to say because an attack can be baffling and not refined.
Jeet Kune Do was created by Bruce Lee to show us that an old art must transform.
Like the day turns to night and night to day the way of fighting must also reform.
Bruce Lee developed Jeet Kune Do but wished he didn't have a name for it!
Because the very words Jeet Kune Do, already indicate that it's another martial arts form.
Any form or style does restrict and his belief is now in conflict.
Chuck Norris - "Lee, pound for pound, might well have been one of the strongest men in the world, and certainly one of the quickest".
Joe Lewis - "Bruce was incredibly strong for his size. He could take a 75lb barbell and from a standing position with the barbell held flush against his chest, he could slowly stick his arms out, lock them and hold the barbell there for 20 seconds, that's pretty damn tough for a guy who at the time only weighed 138lbs. I know 200lb weight lifters who can't do that."
Jesse Glover - "When he could do push ups on his thumbs and push ups with 250lbs on his back, he moved on to other exercises".
James Coburn - "Bruce and I were training out on my patio one day, we were using this giant bag for side kicks, I guess it weighed about 150lbs. Bruce looked at it and just went Bang, it shot up out into the lawn about 15ft in the air, it then busted in the middle. It was filled with little bits and pieces of rag, we were picking up bits of rag for months".

Here are the model parts before attaching them and rigging the model. There's no shading or lighting/textures. Wires are included. The meshes are pretty dense...
