Really well developed concept there samsonreaper, are you planning a camera move or a straight up painting?

Levi Péterfi ladies and gentlemen!

That concept is just incredible mate, this is why I follow your work so closely!

Oh, man, I just love the light! I can't wait to see the final version.
One thing, though - that little bright lamp is looking a bit strange in this pic...

i think your 1st concept is wicked. what stage are you at right now?

Quadart
04-27-2007, 07:07 PM
The green one is outstanding. What a masterful style.

JJASSO
04-27-2007, 07:39 PM
great concepts, I speciually like the jungle one, the one int he snow looks really nice but I think the first oine can have lots of details and a more dramatical lighting.

nickmarshallvfx
04-27-2007, 11:01 PM
Yikes thats good! How do you go about choosing between 2 concepts like that?

MarkyG
04-28-2007, 12:11 AM
man I really like both of those but I *really* like the natural feel of the green one. It feels like I'm in the middle of a really dense place a million miles from anywhere. Very lost and forgotten. Love it.

markg

SamsonsReaper
04-28-2007, 08:22 PM
thanks again everyone, yeah the jungle one comes out better. I do think the image needs some futuristic elements, suggesting the future. So probably whip out some Maya objects.

cgoz
04-30-2007, 09:47 AM
great job already.i love your style SR.i'm also wondering, will you add camera move?

bonniedickson
04-30-2007, 07:48 PM
Those are both great concepts! I really like the jungle one and would love to see it at it's final stage. My fingers are crossed that it's the one you go with :)

SamsonsReaper
05-13-2007, 12:27 AM
cgoz: yes i think so :)

Well first quick step. This has been laying still for weeks. And its time to start working. This is far from finished, just laying down the key elements.

Quadart

Wow! That's convincing already. Great job so far.
The photo element route seems to be the way to go on this one, with the walls coming in close to the viewer.—Can't wait to see the finish.
I'm sure you've done your share of mattes. Do you have a large library of photo reference, or do you search on line as needed for refs? That's probably a dumb question.

thundering1
05-14-2007, 03:37 AM
This is incredible - bravo! Very convincing blending of images!
Yeah, I'd love to know if you have an immense library of images to work with, or do you go out and shoot per project?

Can't wait to see more updates!

JJASSO
05-16-2007, 05:58 PM
I agree about this image looking great, just don't forget the reflections on the water, I would add more detail to the wall where the archs are, more fooliage, some cracks in the structure, some broken details, moisture, etc

SamsonsReaper
05-21-2007, 05:54 PM
thanks mates

not much left to go now, still i am not sure what to continue on..

Looks good. Nice work with the photo reference.
My only crits would be to dig out some of the pixels from the lattice in the remaining roof support arches and adding some more crumbly wall structure to the columns to the right. The sky looks a bit blown-out too.

Very nice job over all.

kbarts
05-21-2007, 06:42 PM
Nice work bro! So on the right side the plant has a hard edge where you extended the right side.
Good luck!

bechira
05-21-2007, 07:07 PM
very nice integration indeed. U have some work do to on the right side but i'm shure u'll do it right. next, maybe it needs some atmospheric effects (it seems to flat)...some haze and dark shadows/ highlights to get little more drama.

nickmarshallvfx
05-21-2007, 07:52 PM
Yea the only things that I noticed are the line on the right at the bottom which im sure you already are taking care of, and the sky that just doesn't seem to match.

Other than that its pure perfection mate ;) Love how this turned out, its amazing!

Gotta love the "Venice" touch in the last update.

I guess the blown-out sky works if you think in terms of real world photography, when large areas are shrouded in shade and metered on against a bright sky.

I like the brightness level of the walls in the previous update.
The waterfall is a nice touch.
Nicely done.

Hey everything looking gr8...only the man on th boat is too small..scale is not right....other than that very nice.

kbarts
05-22-2007, 12:45 PM
Nice. congrat Bro! I think on a matte painting do not need caracter.

SoniaNotRed
05-22-2007, 05:45 PM
You probably should have a little more light bounced of the water on the lower arches, since it's a bright sunny day. And I think we're not supposed to have people in the pic... Maybe just the boat?
Keep it up! :)

Inlakechh
05-22-2007, 08:12 PM
looking great so far. I agree with ferraosnehal about the character.

nickmarshallvfx
05-22-2007, 11:44 PM
I think if you make the blue in the sky slightly darker it will look a bit better. Its looking better now already, but may just help a little. Really love your work on this Levi, sweet stuff. I agree about the character too though.

Take care, and good luck when it comes to judging :)

Great work... Just wandering if you're going to remove the two lights on the back wall? They kinda look outa place :P

cgoz

looking just great SR, i love that.but i agree with kb, would be better without a character.

All the additions are superbly blended into the origional photo here, even though this is a Digital Matte I still like the addition of boat and figure, gives a great sense of scale.

Keating
05-30-2007, 07:09 AM
Looks great, very nice blending of all the photographic elements. I'm not sure about the boat/figure, I think the scale may be off. I would like to see a little more light bouncing around the ruins, but overall it's pretty damned nice! Good job!

Layer01
05-30-2007, 07:43 AM
very nice work :)
i agree, i think its better without the people.
amzing stuff so far though..very jealous :p

thank you for all the replies.

Finishing touches. Added some powerline atleast giving some notion of a future.

The pipe is good idea but right now it seems to be competing with the other half of the image. Maybe it would work better a bit closer to the ground, with shorter supports or something... Just a thought... :)

SamsonsReaper
05-31-2007, 11:48 AM
maybe but i want the image to be dynamic for the viewer, might tone it down, possibly add some more 3d in it

bechira
05-31-2007, 12:28 PM
I agree with Sonia, it distracts too much attention trom the focal point, maybe if they were half burried into the ground...

Inlakechh
06-03-2007, 10:29 AM
I agree with Sonia and Sorin and
suggest to erase the pipe and cut out a part of the left wall. Giving that side some more play with light. This way you can show some more of the beautiful waterfall in the background aswell. I hope this is helping.

SamsonsReaper
06-04-2007, 03:53 PM
thanks for the crits, but i am not sure if its better this way :/ i kind of feel more conflict now.

http://www.leventep.com/Matte/Matte_P/Matte%20Challenge/nhm_challenge_plate_step6.jpg

bechira
06-04-2007, 04:02 PM
U can make the pipes longer and take out the left waterfall. It distract too much attention from the focal point....just a thought.

kbarts
06-04-2007, 04:17 PM
My point of view it is better. But a bit busy. No place where the eye could rest a bit.
Maybe without the left waterfall it could be better and distroy on the left the ctructure the give more space. I am not sure about.

SamsonsReaper
06-04-2007, 04:42 PM
yeah i think that will work best, eliminating the waterfall

Matellis
06-04-2007, 07:14 PM
Hey Levi, this is looking great!

I actually really like the waterfall you have on the left and i think it could really help out your composition. Maybe by adding some more white water or foam coming from that waterfall and the waterfall that is closer to the right. i think that would maybe help lead the viewers eye to the focal point.

Cant wait to see it finished :D

Cheers
