View Full Version : FXWARS: Filming footage for future challenges (need your ideas)
RobertoOrtiz 04-12-2007, 10:03 PM I need ideas for guerrilla style filming of indoor and outdoor elements for future challenges.
Hey guys, I am in the process of trying to film some stock footage for
upcoming fxwars. No promises, but I am working on it.
Anyway this thread is to give you guys a voice on what I should be filming.
I ll have some friends helping me in various capacities, but this is a NO BUDGET shoot.
Some of the people helping us are local professional gaffers, fxartists, cinematographers and lighters, but there is so much they can do for free.
So keep that in mind.
Keep in mind I live on the East Coast of the US, in close proximity to New York & Philadelphia.
We are not doing movies here, the main idea is to shoot stock gags so you guys can use them.
Some of the ideas.
Man playing on an empty soccer field (FX: Set extension, Crowd replication)
Woman running on a empty hallway (FX: Creature animation)
Man an woman talking out side (FX: Day for night shot, Rain effects)
Plates of historical panoramas (FX Digital mattes)
Woman stalks man in alley (FX Digital makeup)
Well you get the idea :)
Anyway I am looking forward to your suggestions
-R.

If you're trying for low budget/no cost shoots, i'd get this book Roberto:
The DV Rebel's guide (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0321413644?tag=prolost-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0321413644&adid=1KD02Y9J76TWAE68KWZZ&) by Stu Maschwitz (Co-Founder of The Orphanage)
Best book on doing filming AND effects on the cheap that i've ever come across.

As to shoots:
Leaping shots (for building-to-building jumps etc.)
In room pans with window backdrops (for background mattes)
In car shoots (windscreen replacement)
Computer-station shots (for screen replacement)
Screaming face close-ups (for mutation/decay/horror shots)
POV shots of looking at hands
Falling over shots (many uses, from decapitation to ducking things)

Erilaz thanks for the heads up.
We may have to create a required reading list for the forum
:)

I would like to thank Erilaz for being such a cool bloken suggesting the DV Rebel book.
The book is simply incredible.
Well Hopefully we will be able to use some of the test footage in a future mini challenge.
Keep an eye on this thread for more updates.

Hi, first time in this forum. I just wanted to say that although I dont have any specific ideas I really loved your idea of getting some footage that we could do some digital matte work with. I've been praying that something like this would come along coz I've got no way of shotting footage like that with.
Thanks for offering to do this, you are a real pillar of the community.

The shooting went as planned.
I will be storyboarding some "gags" for future challenges and Ill post the boards on this thread.
So if you have an idea of an FX gag, please do post it here.
And space-sprayer thanks for the compliments. You made my morning.

Seriously, I am inspired. I have been working with several modelers, texturizers, riggers, and animators for my film which I am producing. I would like to learn one or two things from the producer/owner of this movie!
