Hey guys,

Starting to play around with Vray for the first time, and have been dabbling in the materials found at: http://www.vray-materials.de

I downloaded a basic chrome material to give it a shot. I have a simple stop/watch object that I modeled that I applied the material to.

I have one spot light, and GI turned on in the Vray roll-out.

When I hit render though, the chrome material just comes out black. Do I need to set up an enironment map for the reflection, or could you please point me in the right direction? I am sure it is something damn simple, but thought I would ask here.

Cheers,

W

It will need something to reflect. If it's a chrome sphere in an infinately black space (like you just make a sphere and put the material on) it will be black. If you put some more stuff into the space (ground plane, another sphere or ten) does it stay black?

yes, the chrome material is based on what is reflecting, try using HDRI for the enviroment, you will see the effects more clearly.
