downloading now...very slowly. I will mirror it for you tommorow morning if you want and if it is as good as it looks from the teeny tiny stills.

* edit * great stuff. Is the DRONEZ thing finished? When I checked the site it looked the same as it was a while back.

Anyway, here is another mirror. I'll leave it up as long as it is being accessed.

Damn, it just dropped to roughly more than 8 Kbps (I went to download it instead of a direct feed. This might take a while...)

i've seen your stuff on this site before and it's very good, you have a very proffessional look to your 3-d work... the only crit. i could give you is to leave your 2-d work out of the reel-

Very nice! (I would have to say the 2D kinda lowers the quality of the demo reel...)

-I really liked the dragon battle clip. :D

Very nice professional looking reel you have there. I love the drones stuff. The dragon stuff is good too but the drones stuff looked incredible. What did you do in each shot? Make sure you have that in with your demo reel. (not in the video, unless you want to put that quickly at the end). Since you seem to like to do animation, modeling, setup, texturing, particles, etc. It's hard to know exactly what you did in each of those shots. As an animator I wasn't looking for texturing or modeling bits, it seemed to me more of an animators reel in that there was a lot of action shots. Also Since you didn't have any models in there showing off their wireframes and textures and such (which might be somewhat helpful in a modelers reel??? I dunno...modelers?). I'd say animation wise that the stuff I didn't like the most was with the bear and the penguin. The 2d stuff didn't bother me, just was a different style which is fine by me. All in all though it's a pretty great reel I'd say.

(Oh and the shot with the toonshaded character I'd ditch completely...it isn't needed in the reel at all I'd say.)

I'm going to wait on watching the reel, but I did check out your website and saw examples of your stuff(btw your website is pretty slick and professional). Your models looked pretty nice, though you don't have any wires which would be useful. You seem to express an interest in doing a lot of stuff, in terms of the realtime industry(i.e. games) you should market yourself as a cutscene animator/artist. Your 2d skills aren't as strong as your 3d stuff and as such I would take the images down from your site(but by no means stop drawing if you enjoy doing so). Anyways, spectacular work, good luck!!

Ok. I have viewed you demo.

Crti: The 2d blonde. Take her out. The 2d vampire stuff, they need to go.

Coments: The paper looking Wild West thing, is very unique. I like that idea. I have seen the dragon video, and the singing head. Love them both. But i didnt realise you made those.

Congrats: I love the demo. Once you take out those two things, it will be amazing. Realy though, take that out. Once thats gone, I dont know who wouldn't hire you for a design job.

Kudoes!

I really liked the reel, especially the robots (nice fluid animation). Though there are things I would personally cut from it if I were you, a few of the pieces (especially the 2d animation ones) are nowhere near as strong as the others and weaken the overall reel. But cutting a few things you could make it better IMO.

Really cool, but I have to agree with the general feeling that you should ditch the 2D work and the cartoon shaded head - they do stick out like a sore thumb. Other than that, it looks fantastic.

Breath taking to say the least....

This is absolutley superb. Very professional although I would agree that, if it were my portfolio I would not include the 2D vampire footage and the toonshaded girl. The other 2D stuff is really good. Have you thought about setting up your own company? Just an idea.

I hope you don't mind if I ask you what software you use and more importantly where you studied? I'm looking for a BA course to do myself right now and I would be very interested to know (I'm in the UK). If you would rather mail me please do so at allseeingi@hotmail.com

You will end up with a fantastic job. Congratulations on a great portfolio.

WOW. thats the best demo reel i've seen online yet. I can't think of anything that would make it better, people are saying to take the 2D out but I kinda like it.. it shows you dont only do 3D.

How long have you been doing 3d??

Hi Leif,

I agree. While the 2d stuff is not close to being as strong as the 3d, it is a good bridge in the context of the demo reel... and personally I think all portfolio's, demo reels or any public works display should have a humility aspect. ;)

I really don't know what this has to do with the topic. With that said, Leif Erickson was a Viking. And, he discovered America before Columbus did.

With that out of the way, great demo reel. It really kicks ass.

That might just be the best showreel ive seen so far.
Good tempo, diverse enough but not too much.
Maybe a bit too long for my liking, but like everybody else have said: if you get rid of the 2d stuff then it will be perfect.

btw: Leif is a very common swedish name.

what digital camra work?

KingofDaveness
03-12-2003, 06:25 AM
perhaps virtual camerawork would be a better wording.

if you watch the framing, the camera is smooth, non disturbing, naturalistic, dramatic and, above all, reactive to the drones and the dragons.

So... nice camerawork.

Leif I think its time I gave you yet another award for this collaboration. You've seriously outdone yourself. Aside from the 2D art that was mentioned, this is one solid reel. You're not going to be looking for a job too long I assure you :)

You have received the CGtalk choice award .Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! Incredible work.

upon receiving this award, it guarantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame (http://gallery.cgtalk.com) - which you are now placed

That was cool!

The drone shots were just awesome, the dragon shots were great as well.

I'm not familiar with reels, so I can't critique. My impression of it is that you were demo-ing your animation skills. Is this right?
