Title: Barbarian Warrior
Name: Silvia Fusetti
Country: Italy
Software: Photoshop, Poser, XSI

Another male subject for this work. Why clients doesn’t ask me to make a nice woman!?
I made a part of this book cover in 3d graphic ( xsi for the helmet and poser for the basic reference face ) but the most part of work was made in photoshop. I shot some reference photos for skin textures and hairs ( thanks to Lorenzo for posing :) ).
There’s a lot of painting in this work. The beard is totally painted too.
About the helmet : modelled by Gabriele Sina, I did texturing, lighting, shading.

Here you have some work steps,
some reference photos,
and some details:

He feels more like a Viking than a Barbarian to me. Otherwise I'd say it's pretty close to perfect, the colours, detail on the helmet and beard are all impecable!

The Barbarian Invasions at last :D

Very nice work, I'm working on a piece which I'll make most of in 3D but the finishign touches in 2D. I wasn't sure about painting the beard but now that I've seen this piece I think I'll go ahead with it. I'm keeping yours as a reference for the level of quality it needs to be at!:)

Hi Silvia,

I don't Know you, but I visit your CGPortfolio and i find good work. This is illustration with more detail... but why use Poser? It's easy modeling with Poser... If you modeling all in XSI maybe it's more fantastik work, now it's great work...

_________

Ciao Silvia,

ciao e buona giornata
Matteo

huh?! ....not being rude here, but that didn't make much sense.....the fact that it's listed in the 2D section, clearly means that poser was used as a basis for the figure...everything else was painted, therefore ANY 3D program would do.....in fact, I think she didn't even needed to use one considering how well this piece is painted....

again, great work Silvia...

Thankyou Matteo for your comment but I agree with Donald,
my intention was to create a well made 2D work so I think it doesn't matter which 3D software I used to make the base for painting. Anyway this illustration was made on demand and I had few days to finish the work.
I think It's important to choose the better technique in respect of the time available and the result wanted.
If I had used xsi to model the face I dont think that the final image would have been better.

Ciao :)

Outstanding work! One small criticism. I would prefer to see part of the warrior's neck to assure the viewer that he is very much alive and very much a threat. With the fabric drawn so closely to his face it almost appears we are viewing a "beheaded" warrior. Just an observation. Beautiful work!
Thank you!

Thankyou for your observation,
I didn't noticed that. Maybe the garment is too much close to the head.
I'm too lazy to fix it but the next time I'll be careful about that!

The level of details in this job make me wonder.
Helmet: Perfect
Eyes: Totally nordic. Outstanding.
Shading/Lighting/Textures: Perfect. A special mention for the hairs: Outstanding.
Scene: This close-up fit very well to any secuence in the line´s history: is this the warrio´s close-up who is going to war? Or may be he is returning?
A Please: dont wait to make a beatiful-nordic girl. May be the wife of this character. Will be a great post here.
Pros: The adaptability of the close up, apart of the masterful level of details.
Cons: Would be great to add a little part of the neck, even the shoulders. But this change your close up work to a bust.

4 solid Stars for me!

OK, lacking words. "Cool", "nice" etc. can only sound nonhonest as for me;) If anybody sees any imperfection, then please reveal this now, and it could be the best learning reference ever created.
What could I say? That`s sth like "Extreme CG". I would be madly happy if I ever create sth like that, even provided so much work was done in PS.
