However, when we compared the CB rating with the 4 core Mac Pro, the 8 core was only 45% faster. Geekbench, on the other hand, registered 600% CPU usage on the 8 core, the resulting rating was a correlated 56% faster than the 4 core.

I'd wait for the next cinebench personally to get a better idea of how they work with R10.

There's always a diminishing return on multiprocessing, even with dual processing it was never a 2x speedup, the more processors you have the less benefit you get, with faster RAM and a faster hard drive there would be more of a speed gain given, however even then sharing resources means that there is always a bottlneck somewhere, and some processing has to be given to how this stuff is shared.

The multi core/multi CPU benefit also depends on the kind of scene you render.
Many scene preparations such as soft shadows or hair only run on one core, bringing down the total CB score.
