View Full Version : Easiest Way To Make Holes in NURBS?
callon 03-09-2003, 07:33 PM Howdy Folks! I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on what the easiest/most effecient way to makes holes in nurbs surfaces is? At the moment, I'm more concerned with making round holes, but if you have tips on how to make holes of other shapes, they are certainly welcome!
Thanks so much!

in general - project the curve on the surface and then trim it - i have pretty good experiences with trims so far although they are pretty infamous in general

Trims are better supported than booleans in Maya... I've heard some stories about the implementation of Maya's booleans that are a little scary, so I'm not sure I'd want to rely on them.
Trims are generally not a very good idea if you're trying to get Maya's surfaces into other packages for rendering or other work. Better, usually, to try to model in a hole with NURBS patches and then stitch.

Yeah, booleans is the easiest, but can get messy and not look AS nice as doing it with Trims and Stitching . Depends what you want and how much time you want to spend making the hole.
