A couple critiques I guess since I own one.....raise the fretboard and neck higher above the pickups....otherwise when you put strings on it, the strings will be magentically stuck on the pickups!!
I also think you need to add more depth to everything....the body looks to thin, whereas when I look at mine, its nice and chunky, and also has a raised middle curved body. But a very good start. :buttrock:

Being a guitar enthusiast aswell, I am actually building a gibson les paul DC. It seems your guitars shape isn't quite right, the top has a bell curve type shape, where it starts off flat on the outer edges and gradualy goes into a concave curve, then shifts into a convex curve over the top and middle.
I'm sure www.gibson.com will have some good reference for you.

Finally done the frets, raised the body, gave it some bevel, added the strings too, also raised the humbuckers. Im working on the gibson logo now for the top of the head.

The shape of the body is still slightly wrong.
I have a Gibson Les Paul, and looking across my room at it here, I can tell you easily that the part of the shape that is most wrong in your model is the cutaway - it needs to curve forwards toward the neck just a little more from where it is.
I think the neck is also a little too broad.
Is the headstock the right shape? I guess it depends on the series :)
Keep going, it's looking good otherwise
It looks very good so far
The cutout needs some work :)

Well, I'm more of a PRS kinda guy but I'll add that the top needs much more of an arch. Also, if you want technical accuracy, the body is thicker at the bridge than where it intersects at the neck., I think it's a 5 degree angle on the top.

here is an update, this is to show what materials will go where, plus its a more clearer render. Also I have updated the curve, but still trying to get the head, like a gibson head.

Could you possibly do a render from the bottom (so we could see the profile of the curve?) The shape of the top piece looks a bit off still. :/

Here are some pics where the specular shows of the curvature of the front of the body

Yours seems to be rounded the whole way over.
I hope this helps a bit.

as ive alreay said it's beginning to look great, the headstock is looking much better, and the cutaway looks great, you still have to do the black beauty =]

Your shape and proportions are all wrong, see below. I took the outline from the photo posted earlier in this thread.
http://leigh.cgcommunity.com/temp/guitar.jpg
You also seem to have a really weird bump map or something on the guitar body - the finish is usually totally smooth, and quite reflective. That mottled look you have doesn't look right
You need to lower the diffusion amount on the chrome parts, to get rid of that milky look. The more reflective something is, the less diffuse it is ;)

Oh ok. But you still have some problems with the shape - your body isn't round enough.

LOL :D
That problem you are having with the guitars body (;)) shouldn't be hard to fix - just a little bit of tweaking here and there :)
