The latest version (1.3) of the DAVID laser range scanning software (http://www.david-laserscanner.com/?section=Start) has been released.
This version includes a trial of Shapefusion (http://www.david-laserscanner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77) for the registration and stitching of scans. Output is in the form of obj or ply but these can't be saved in the trial. The writers are looking to sell the full version at what sounds a fairly cheap price (two digits). The laser scanning part of the software is still free.
I have tried the software and it works well, even with some cheap equipment. It probably isn't up to commercial use, but it is cheap enough for hobbyists who like to sculpt concepts in clay.
