View Full Version : specular issues with tube lights

Hi guys,

I came accross the following: when I light an object with a tube light, I get strange specular highlights on the object. To make it clearer, I used a sharp highlight - see below.

To indicate the size of the tube light, I made it visible, but the effect happens without the visibility as well. Same goes for the shadow type: it doesn't influence the appearance of the dots.

I am using 8.012 on Win2K. Any idea if this is supposed to happen? My mind says no, but my mind is known to have been mistaken before. Perhaps this will be adressed in the next upate?

Cheers,
BaRa

Hi JIII,

I'd attach the source file, but the server doesn't allow it. I'll make sure to send it to Maxon - unless Srek or some other Maxon employee knows about this. Srek?

Tried that on R8 demo version (8.012). Increasing the Specular Falloff on material seems to cause this "effect"...Looks like a BUG (or just another FEATURE)...

how about using a parrallel spotlight with no falloff, and visible light? there is no circular pattern as you notice with a tube light.

Hi Solarblue,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I wasn't actually trying to solve something, I just came accross this "peculiar" behavior.

Cheers,
BaRa
