I apologize for cluttering a technical/skill-based thread with a purchasing inquiry, but I couldn't think of anyone better to ask. I'm trying to get started with Painter X after dabbling in ArtRage and recently put in an order for the education edition through Corel's website. Ebay is supposedly offering sealed copies of the standard edition for a little cheaper and since I like the idea of actually having a printed copy of the manual for learning purposes, I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with purchasing vital software through sellers on ebay. Am I better off just sticking with corel in this regard? Thanks in advance.

Be very careful with purchasing software on EBAY-in the past there has been pirated software sold there and they have been reluctant to do anything about it. If you know the seller and are comfortable with their reputation, go ahead. But you are taking a chance.

I searched and saw using the term "Corel Painter X" on ebay and concluded that the low priced version was the academic one. The other prices were very close to the posted retail. The ones I saw at low price didn't give which version it was. You have the option in most cases to contact the seller and find out for sure. The largest seller seemed to have a very decent rating
