View Full Version : Chip v.1.1.0 Free character rig for Maya 7+
OneFuzzyBrain 04-08-2007, 11:25 PM Hey dudes. I recently fixed up a character rig of mine. Thought some riggers or animators might be interested. You can download him here (http://highend3d.com/maya/downloads/character_rigs/Chip-4446.html) at highend3d.com.

Ah, a fellow AIPD guy. Looks pretty good.
Just some points:
Not a fan of the elbow pole control parented to the IK arm control. You want an animator to be able to plant an elbow. If you want to keep this functionality but give the animator an option then maybe a parentConstraint that will allow the pole control to follow or not.
It would be bit difficult for an animator to distinguish between the FK wrist and the IK wrist control. Controls need to be more clear
Make a belly control instead of a dynamic one. Faster playback and gives the animator more control.
Face shapes are ok but can be pushed. The sync control needs to be at default the center. The up position should bring the jaw up some and both the upper and lower lips up a bit.
But other than that, not bad.
Cheers,
Sean

thanks a lot for the crit, your comments will definitely be used in my future rigging/modeling/animation/texturing (etc.) endeavors.
Do you by chance know Jarien Sky (http://jarisky.conecollective.org/)? I think he started going to the AIPD around the same time you did. He's graduating this term and is sitting next to me at the moment... he says "hi".

Sorry, the name doesn't ring a bell. Did he and I have a class together? I graduated in 2005 so been awhile. Although if you run into Eric Lyman, you can tell him hi. Hmmm, I did speak briefly in Eric's porttfolio class a few months back. Oh wait, I think i might remember him. Kind of short with long hair? Man, if he's still going to school, he's sure taking his sweet time...hehe.
Always nice to see another character td come out of AIPD. I was like the second one to come out of there looking specifically for that line of work. AIPD needs to get on the ball and offer more of those types of classes. Anyways, good luck.

ah well, your name rang a bell for him, i just assumed you knew him also. Yea... he's been at the AI for a while.
I wouldn't exactly call myself a character TD, it's just another one of the things I like to do =)
