View Full Version : Arch Presentation - Lighting and Rendering
Pretorian 04-08-2007, 08:22 PM For exteriors rendering, exemple for a house (building), wich would be an interesting technique of rendering for a daylight situation? I tried final gathering wich was very interesting, but gave an impression of a toy house. I was looking for a photorealistic presenation. Would it be better by using HDRI or global illumination?
Thanks

You'll probably get more responses by posting:
A. What software application you're using.
B. A rendering that shows the "toy house" effect so people can offer specific tips to fix it.

Software:
Maya 8.5 and rendering in Mental Ray.
Renderign Sample:
I canīt post them right now since I donīt have them here as I write this. By toy house I mean thouse examples that you can see over the internet (I saw that many times) showing final gathering. It looks like artificial, like plastic, with undirected light. Time ago I saw some examples about final gathering with a car, not colored, if Iīm not wrong it was in white color, looking like a toy.
I would like to get something like this:
www.bmcaff.com/archive/images/arch11.jpg (http://www.bmcaff.com/archive/images/arch11.jpg)
www.bmcaff.com/archive/images/arch09.jpg (http://www.bmcaff.com/archive/images/arch09.jpg)
These images are from Brendan McCaffrey, a very good design visualization illustrator.
Hope people help me to get these results.
Thanks

I think Brendan mainly uses mental ray and Maya.
Those images you posted were most likely Final Gather
and an Ambient Occulsion pass.
Just do a search on cgtalk for mental ray and you will find
tones of information on reaching a quality render.
Heres one interesting thread.

But you really need to post images of your work so people can help you.

The effect that you describe is really cool and works well, I think you can get even more realism from your renders (like the attached pic) if you try the method used to light cars.
