View Full Version : how to model branches like this? (lung)
is there a more or less simple way to model branches like this, getting smaller and smaller in the periphery?

u serious to model this little scratch? use bump or displacement.
u use maya or max???
3ds max.
the little details are not the problem - displacement would be good enough - how to model these braches of tubes?

Actual modeling of that level of detail would be a nightmare, unless you use a script/plugin.
But there's an easier way. In max, you can use the scatter compound. What you can do is simply modeling the major branches and middle size branches and then scatter on them grids with alpha channel reproducing the shape of the smaller branches. It's a technique I used for trees, it would certainly work for this. Have alook at my result with trees:

I you had been using maya, you could experiment with paintFX, it is quite useful in these type of situations.
If you have the budget, I would recommend Xfrog.
Thanks for your replies! I'll try it with scatter compound...
