Ahhhh i am going crazy trying to wrap my head around textures in XSI. I am trying to put a plaid texture to my characters sports jacket, but i am unsure as to how to do this. I start to put it on with a cylinderical projection, and the body looks ok just needs tweaking in the texture editor. But what do i do with the arms? the pattern has to go in the other direction and not be strectched can put it on a cluster and some how have another cylindrical projection or something for the arms? i don't know. also getting a little confused with projections and supports etc. i read the manual on these things but it is still mud. Also for an animated character what is the best projection/support whatever to use for the texture so they don't end up swimming around. Please please help i am sure there is a simple answer, my brain is just to thick to get it. :surprised

Hiya

A jacket is difficult. It's basically three cylindars. So, my suggestion would be to use three different cylindrical projectsions. Break the arms off as seperate objects, apply a cylindrical UV to each of them. That should do the trick. Another way would be to 'spread the arms out' like a "T" from front on. Then, cut the mesh in half, from the side. Now, planar UV each side. This way you only have to do two texture/UV maps. The drawback is that when the 'arms' of the charcter are stretched out in front, you might get some nasty smearing along the back shoulder area's.

Good luck! :)
