View Full Version : ut2003 character wip
harmonic01 03-09-2003, 02:48 AM Hey PPL. Ok, first of all, I must brag about my awesome girl friend. A few days ago she came over and said "I have a present for you". And guess what was it? Unreal Tournament 2003. Yahhooooo. :bounce: So, now that I have it, I'm making my first low poly model. Here it is. No textures yet. I'm making this just to learn how to import models in to UT. I duno what else to do to this model before unwrapping. Let me know what you think.
oh yeah, allmost forgot. It's 1942 Faces so far.

In my opinion the legs and the arms are a little short, but for every thing else i think is a very good model:wavey:
Yep! looks cool :)
I also thing is legs are a little short...
And the feets are a bit strange!!
Everything else look fine!! and by the way good job.. its hard to model in low poly.. i know what it is to have a poly limit hehe

This is rocking! Great job!!! Personally, I think the shoulders should be a little wider, but that's just me.

Hey man...really nice work on the model! For a guy with muscles that big though a wider chest and should mass might be a good idea. Experiment with it a little.
Even if you leave it like it is, it still looks really good!

WOW, great model; that looks really cool:eek: ; just 1 suggestion: bring up a lil more noise on the textures between left and right, scratches and bumps on the right shouldn't be mirrored on the left side again;
but good job:thumbsup:

Grimreaper1981 thanx, but at the moment the character unwrapped so that both halves are mirrored. I looked at actually UT2003 characters and they are also unrwrapped that way, that's why mine is. Maybe later I'll try to move things around hopefully without loosing too much space in unwrap windows.

Hey harmonic! Long time no see :) It's looking really nice there... Haven't really got any crits, maybe add some more detail to the boots? And I want to see a close up of the head!
How's you been lately? Studying still?

Hey Urg, great to hear from you. Yeah, still working on the boots. Nothing textured beyound the waist yet.
Since I switched my major from music performance (french horn) to computer animation, yeah, I'm still a student. Got a year and a half to go.

hey... 2 questions...
#1 can you use maya in conjunction with ut 1003?
#2 is so can ya link some tutorials up.. that looks like a lot of fun and i'd like to try it out
harmonic01
03-16-2003, 08:31 AM
smfjersey, thanx. :-)
Backstabbeth - Oh yeah, totally. I use 3dsmax, but Maya would work just as well. In fact, UT2003 cd3 has Maya PLE. The only tuts I know that uses Maya for UT2003 are videos from 3dbuzz (www.3dbuzz.com) they are totally free, just register and download. I don't think they cover characters yet, though. So far level editing and static meshes. Actually, you can read www.polycount.com tutorials for Max and do the same in Maya. The only difference is that you use Maya ActorX plug-in instead of Max. Oh, wait, not sure about if there are special bone requirements for Maya.

For rigging, are you using the character studio rigs released by Digital for this character? Or, are you creating your own rig?
If you're creating your own rig, how exactly does it work to import it into the game? I'm really interested in doing UT2003 models, but I was turned away when I was told that you had to use the rigs that Digital provided. I don't want to be restricted to either huge guy, or skinny guy.
Any tutorials you know of would be quite helpful too.

03-16-2003, 10:14 AM
sorry nervous_twitch, I only know of tutorials from www.polycount.com Yeah, I use one of the character studio rigs. Actually, before starting this model, I made a crappy one really really fast to try and import. Well, I used my own character studio pibed scaled to my crappy character and it imported just fine. Right now I used one of the mercs bipeds, rescaled some parts, though. Havn't tried to import to UT2003 yet, though, so not yet know of the horrors that lie ahead. :hmm:

Looking Badass!
Give him some beard stubble.
Possibly a scar.
Goggles should be a dirty transparent glass with scratches.
He needs some stuff added to his chest.

firstly, I like your model alot!
however, id like to see some more scratches and dirt
on the textures.. You should read leigh's texturing guides in the texture section.
Just some tips, great piece anyway :)
