View Full Version : Efficient organic modeling

I started modeling a female body and it has been going fairly well. But something is bothering me.
By browsing these forums I'm witnessing how efficiently artists on here are building their models. And they make it seem so easy when its really not. As you can see from the attached images, the model is packed with polys. And the reason for this is because that every time I try to add a certain detail to certain body parts, I have to continue the cuts all the way throughout the body in order to keep the edge loop flowing fluently. This is best notable on the neck where you can see all the leftover polys being funneled to the neck.

So first, do you think that the topology here is pretty much, more or less, correct? And second do you have any advice for me on how to add details and still keep the wire nicely spread.

Thanks in advance to all the helpers!

someone recently gave me this link http://www.deadicated.net/subDModelling_ThePole/ and it goes into a huge amount of detail with organic modeling and proper topology. hope it helps

its hard to tell from the images you posted but it looks like you are adding new geometry too quickly

some of the edge loops you have in there don't do anything to define the shape of the mesh. You should get every last bit of detail out of the existing mesh before you add a new loop, and once the new loop is in you should take advantage of every new vetice to define your shape
