View Full Version : Simple node question
Ach ive been racking my brains, i have a null group ( with no shape node accociated) and some other geometry. My null group is already combined in my rig, however i now want to associate a shope node with it so that i may use a nurbs curve as a control object.
So my question is how can I add a shape node to a null group.
Ive tried selecting the shape node in Hpergraph and then the null group and then parent, but that doesnt work as it parents the entire curve transform node and shape under the null group.
eek :scream:
thx :love:

Can you "just" middle mouse the shape node onto the null node? (same as parenting) If the shape node is connected to the curve transform node then you need to unparent that and then reparent the shape node to the null node. I really don't understand what you mean here so this may make no sense what-so-ever. Have a pic of maybe the hypergraph? What exactly are you trying to do? Setup a curve as a controller and have it follow something????
For some mad reason that doesnt seem to work and i cant think why.
See the attached picture, I cant MMB drag from the shape node onto the null group, or seem unparent and reparent the shape node in anyway.
If you look at that picture, i have already added custom attributes and setup SDKs, on the null group. But now i want to add a shape to it to make it easier to select when animating.

Hmm...seems like I understood you, makes sense what you've been trying. I don't know why this wont' work. Have you done this before? It's weird because those nodes dont' have any keys set on them it looks like so there is really nothing attathed to them. It should work. Can you middle mouse drag the shape node off of the cube shape? Just drag it to the left so it's all alone? Maybe having the SDK's on the node has something to do with it? Can you drag the group node under the shape node? Any of that work? If you want you can send me the file and I can look at it??? Up to you though. Try breaking the connections to the nodes you don't need that are causing the problem. ? ? ? :shrug:
Heheh I just did this one as an example. I created a poly cube, then an empty group and tried to do the above.
If i can get it to work in this simple case i should be able to get it to work for my complex rig.
Im beginning to think my maya is broken :o.

So it doesn't work in the simple case that you created just to show me either?? Like I said. If you want to send me the file I can look at it. (if you don't want to give me your file with your character or anything you can always delete as much junk in the file except for some key parts in the rig that may be needed for me to see what's going on. (ie. like an arm or whatever) Um...or give me a screen shot of the file your working on (hypergraph) so I can see what your really dealing with. Hopefully your maya isn't messed up. I think this can be solved though.
Ok thanks for the offer, ill email as soon as I have access to my files (a couplea hours prolly). Thanks Schulz.

I PM'd you with my e-mail. If you don't want to e-mail then get a screen shot up here. :scream: :D

its a good thing you cant just drag shapes around under transforms, things would mess pretty quickly! well. perhaps it be nice to go into a mode that allowed you to do so (alt-ctrl-shft-MMB would be good, hmm, wonder if there are any eggs there?). but, whatch ya lookin for is: parent -s (mr shape) -r (i think, no ref. docs here, only my memory, and thats, ahh something) shape transform;
Thanks wrend and schulz :bounce:
