View Full Version : Bitmaps "PINCH" at poles of spheres - HELP

OK maybe this is because I never understood proofs in geometry.

I want to use a bitmap material on a sphere ... but it gets distrorted and pinched at the poles. (It looks great along the middle latitudes, though.) Is there any way to make a bitmap texture appear "smooth and even" all over a sphere, the way a procedural texture will do?

Anybody got any cool technique to handle this?

HELP!

(mm, Idea, maybe if I create a fuzz-edged "decal" of the same texture, and slap it over the distorted areas?)

This might help. Even if it doesn't help, it is interesting reading, even if a bit confusing.

I'm glad you read it.
I'm glad you tried it.
I'm glad it worked.
I'm *estatic* that you showed before and after.

Gnarly, I used to have time to surf and collect such things. Too bad I don't have access to my old bookmarks (harddrive go bye-bye).

If you do some link hopping from the above, you'll find some very cool things.

Actually, a lot of stuff at SGI is cool.

Thanks for indulging me.
Gotta go.
