You'll have to download new CDilla version from Discreet's website.

I wouldn't recommend "upgrading". Install it from scratch and reformat your c: drive to NTFS. Other than that update c-dilla.

BTW c-dilla folder with a license file can be temporarily moved to another disk and then moved back after you install max again. Don't run max while the license file is not there though.

Upgrade to Win2k is the best advice...

Then go buy WindowBlinds to make it look like XP.

If you do upgrade to XP you will eventually have to disable 75% of the crap that comes with it in order to run half way stable.

My educated 2 cents.....

that would be a bad choice. xp home/pro are both versatile OS's. windowsblinds is a CPU hog and is far off worse than taking 5 minutes to set certain services to manual.

just my $20.00 :D

Ew, Windowsblinds.

We're all nodoubt full of opinions on this one, mine is to go for XP if you're upgrading from 98 anyway. Compared to 2k, it is, in my experience, just as stable, it boots faster, and supports more hardware. And is easier to use. And for the record, I haven't personally turned off any of the eyecandy :)

Oh, er, I would suggest Windows XP Pro btw, because.. er.. I think I had good reasons once, though today it might be more of a habbit-thing.
..I guess Home would do fine as well really, that registration-thing is a zinch, it's an almost fully-automated process. I haven't tested MAX on my Home equipped machine though so I can't promise problem-free goodness. I would be surprised if it behaved differently than the Pro edition though.

Window Blinds was just meant to be a joke :D

Our office has tried XP pro in 3 of our 8 identical machines which are mainly used for CAD. One of those also ran Max and one ran Viz.

Stability was a constant issue until we reformated and reinstalled Win2k Pro. We disabled a fairly long list of services from XP but a shorter list from Win2k. Upon doing so Win2k outshined XP in stability, hands down.

These are dedicated production graphics computers that don't play music and are only connected to an internal network. There are no anitvirus programs loaded or firewalls. No software is loaded or emails downloaded into these machines unless scannned and routed by one individual who runs the main server.

All the services were disabled manually one by one, not by using some tweak program.

If you are using the program to make a living, use an OS that provides the most stability and least amount of superfluous gizmos that diminish resources and create conflict.

It took me about 5 minutes to change everything just like 2000 and disable half the services not needed.

Its just that im thinking of doing more commercial work, and also possibly jumping to XSI.
