i dont particularly like the colors as they don't seem to compliment eachother.

mmm . . . care to elaborate any? do you mean that the colors don't work well within the individual characters? or that it doesn't work as a whole? i know the middle chara's colors are fine; he's practically monochromatic, but i wasn't quite sure about the other two. suggestions for alternate color schemes? anything?
saying the colors don't seem to compliment eachother is a technically correct statement--complimentary colors come in sets of opposites after all (purple/yellow, red/green, blue/orange, etc) which i try to avoid as they tend to be overdown and clownish--but it doesn't tell me anything other than that. good criticism provides suggestions and explanations. so please, elucidate a little.
unless of course you really don't KNOW, and you're just expressing dissatisfaction. then being vague is fine:bounce:

as a whole. complimentary colors can never be overdone.. as it defeats the purpose of them being complimentary.

well . . . that's sort of true. but i meant overdone like cliched. i do a chara in purple and yellow and suddenly i'm seeing classic american superhero costumes.
i'll try a few other colors, then.
thank you.
I really don't care for the colors either, but the characters are nicely drawn. I don't think you can avoid making the costumes seem like superhero outfits as they are rather flashy in design which makes me think of that genre (in the anime style).
You can make color choices that look better together though. For example, the guy with the knives would look more interesting in browns and earth tones and the girl could compliment that with yellow and oranges. For the little mouse character you could subdue with neutrals or draw attention to him/her with saturated colors that contrast the other two characters.
Whatever you decide to do with the image, you should definately loose the white background. Paint an environment or use a neutral wash so your characters appear more solid on the page. Right now they just wash into the white and you really can't focus too well on them.
