View Full Version : After Effects question
binder3d 03-08-2003, 02:41 PM We all know 3D is hard. Especially long render times. However, in the best way to do things category. Isn't AE set up to do alot of the effects that can drag the 3d process into the speed of molasses. Instead of doing explosions, motion blur and possibly morphing - or whatever cool effect see in the movies - cant this be done with AE or anequivalent plug in?
I'm asking because I just bought AE and want to know where I can find some tutorials on how best to combine 3d and effects generated in AE or combine animations from two sources i.e. two different 3d apps.

a bit offtopic, especially since there is an after effects-forum here as well. :)
but yes, you can do some effects either way. but as usual, there are always some 'but's' to it. both ways have their good and bad sides. take explosions for example:
if you have an explosion that's 'only' a post-effect, it will take a great amount of work to get an effect where parts of the blown-up object will move into the third dimension, while an explosion done in 3D gives you this effect alot easier - still alot of work though.
I think that in the end, it's always good to be able to know it both ways. this way, you can choose the easierst way for yourself in order to aquire the desired effect.
This is a very good tutorial about C4DR8 and After effects 5.5
