Very nice :applause:
Although I presume that this is aimed at people doing game textures and such? Since you have added in lighting :)
Thanks for the effort, much appreciated

Yeah, it's definitely more directing to game models where you need to include the lightning right into the skin so that they look propper ingame. I didn't know exactly where to post these tutorials so I thought, the texturesection maybe the right place, feel free to move these threads wherever you want ;)
Thx for comment ;)

I took a stab at it.. It was turning out quiet right so I played around a bit... I stopped at the detal part and just made it into something else.

That's looking nice so far, but remember, to achieve the "pipey" and 3 dimensionaly look you need do add a dark gradient on the top and on the bottom of the picture. It's quite important where to place the gradients, keep it coming

Hello!

THis looks like it could be a really great tutorial. Could the mods or Cant do something about the images? They're not linking up. I'd love to read this tutorial.

Can't edit my first post because he says that I have too many images included. So I try it this way...

1. Pipeskin

http://www.josh.ch/phpmywebmin/_uploads/cANt/R1.jpg
1) First of all we make a new image (344 x 51). We choose RGB (42 42 45) for our foreground and RGB (33 33 35) for our background color. We will now render some simple clouds. After this we will move to the artistic filters to use the Sponge Filter (0 0 1).

http://www.josh.ch/phpmywebmin/_uploads/cANt/R2.jpg
2) We will now just make two little gradients by using the gradient tool with the color black. We make a little larger gradient on the top of the picture and a little smaller gradient at the bottom of if. We furthermore create a little gradient near the center of the image.

http://www.josh.ch/phpmywebmin/_uploads/cANt/R3.jpg
3) Now we will do the highlightning. We create a simple white gradient at the position you see in the following image. As the gradient will turn out too bright we we will decrease the intensity.

http://www.josh.ch/phpmywebmin/_uploads/cANt/R4.jpg
4) We repeat step3 but this time make the gradient a bit larger an brighter. Since we want a real nice light reflection we create a second, finer, gradient above the other, to build up a reflecting line.

5) Since our pipe looks a bit boring and pale now we play a bit around with the colors. Here I took a green overlay texture to give the whole thing an old touch and played a bit around with the contrasts.

http://www.josh.ch/phpmywebmin/_uploads/cANt/R6.jpg
6) Now that we have the basics, we might add some details. I decided for a thread here. To do this just make your selection on the pipe. Copy it out as a new layer and flip the whole thing vertically. You may now need to adjust some of the shadows and lightning, using the dodge and burn tool.

http://www.josh.ch/phpmywebmin/_uploads/cANt/R7.jpg
7) Create more details as you desire.

I know this is a long time after the fact, but the images are broken again it seems... as well as the tutorial packeaged into a .zip file.

I'm very interested in seeing what was here before it vanished and all that.

Hello,

I have downloaded the file tut3.zip that was posted by Atmos_Fear twice now, but I keep getting a corrupted archive error message. Is anyone else having a similar problem?

Thanks.

It doesn't look as if cANt will be responding any time soon, so I hope its ok to post this. I saved this back when the author first posted this thread.
