I came across a tutorial about a year or so ago built around a scene of a basketball on a blacktop surface with animated rain. If anyone recalls and knows of a link to it I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

That's the one - thanks! I spent a while on Evermotion's site, as well as many others, looking for it - duh. Thanks again.

Does anyone have the files for this? I cant seem to download them, I think the files were removed from the server to which the link sends to. :(

Both Spaulding and NBA brand are available at www.logotypes.ru, the bump map is quite easy to recreate.

Neil Blevins wrote some stuff about a rubber material (http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/rubber_material/rubber_material.htm) and wet surfaces (http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/wet_materials/wet_materials.htm).
Should be enough to start with.

I was more looking for the asphalt stuff but thanks for the link :)

Asphalt itself is pretty easy. Wether you just plain texture it (there is a free texture stickie thread) or use a fractal cellular map as a base for both diffuse and bump. This procedural attempt doesn't require any unwrapping, the possible tiling can easily be avoided by using noise maps to mix two or more different versions of that cellular map(or any other map for that matter).
