View Full Version : A book-cover, slightly edited
LoneLobo 03-08-2003, 12:05 PM Hi there :wavey:
I'm not quite sure whether I should post this one here, doesn't seem to fit the high standard.
But I'll try and I'm hoping for some comments
first of all the reference:

I used this pic to modify the cover of this songbook for guitar a bit to "my" prefered music ;)

Not bad. I think you could improve a few areas though. The arms and legs look really messed up. Use a light pencil to draw a stick figure of the pose and then add the details over it. This will keep you from making bent limbs. His right forearm and left leg suffer from some pretty severe bends. The elbow and knee placement is really off and the feet seem to be of different sizes.
You could also make a few changes from the original pose so that things are easier to understand. The foot pedal under his right foot looked like a lift on his shoe. I'd turn that foot some so you can see what it is he's standing on. The other foot needs the shoe fixed. His All Stars look like low-tops, but the star on the side says they should be high-tops (nice choice of shoe BTW :buttrock: ).
Lastly, use a ruler on your borders and straight edges and they'll look much better. And if you have a graphic app ... use it to put in your text and speach bubbles. That will give your design a more finished and professional look.

thank you for your big comment, it helped a lot!
Concerning to your last point: I've done a version with PS some hours after I posted this thread.
In my opinion the hand-drawn pic looked better (especially due to the fact that i forgot to paint the strings and some small other details) so I decided to let the PS-work out...
Don't know if that was right, but...it doesn't matter, here is it:
