I'm working on Maya and rendering in MR. When I apply anything other than the default gray lambert, when I render the frame, the object(s) dissappear. Any ideas?
thanks in advance

Are you using a texture on your character when you change it from the original Lambert? Because I'm having the same problem, but it's only occuring on this one object with this particular texture. When I render my girl, the hair shows up but not the places on her head where the hair rests. So you can essentially see right through her head to the hair, yet the eyes are still there and they also have a texture applied to them. I can't figure out why it's doing that.

I've attached two images of my problem. I don't know if this will help you, as I'm not sure if you're having the same problem, but it might be related to the same thing. The first is the render view showing what exactly happens when I render it. the second is the scene view. It looks like you can see right through the parts of the body where the hair would hit. I wonder if a constraint would solve the issue. But I've never encountered this before even when I didn't have constraints in the scene.

Probably clipping plane issue.
Reduce Near Clip Plane value in Your rendering camera settings.

AerithHojo (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=271709) : It is your hair.
Delete your hair and test please.

Clondike7 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=8586) : select your object (shape), attribut editor ----> render stats (primary visibility).
Di you have lights ?

Yes, it is the hair, if I render without the hair it's fine. But how do I fix the problem without creating new hair? Or is there no other way to fix it?

edit: I tried deleting the old hair system and creating a new one and I still had the same problem. I'm thinking it's not the hair, but the texture on the character that is doing it. But I don't know for sure. Any suggestions?

How do you create your hair ?

I use nurbs curves and then loft the surface. And then I duplicate the isoparms, and the surface curves. Then I delete the lofted surface and assign the curves to a hair system.

Edit: I figured it out. After some simple problem solving I figured out it was the texture. Maya wasn't recognizing it as a psd file, so I just loaded it as a generic file and that seemed to do the trick.
