View Full Version : Cinema 4d 32Bit 4GB Memory Boost
nicodemus3d 04-04-2007, 02:40 PM Hi,
Im currently working on a dual-boot workstation. I have 4GB of RAM installed and can access all 4 when in 64Bit mode for those 'extra-detailed' scenes. However, I regualrly switch between 32 and 64 bit mode (mainly beacuse of lack of drivers for 64bit).
I have read all sorts of crap about a 3GB switch and some PAE switch thingy.
I Thought it would be best to just ask you guys if any of you are using this to access more memory in 32 bit mode, whether it helps c4d along, and whether you have any problems with it.
Many thanks
Nico

If it works it works :)
The alternatives with the /3GB option are either a working system or an immediate crash.
If it works CINEMA can use up to 1 GB more then before, depending on exact circumstances (drivers, codecs etc.). I know of no negative effects of using the /3GB option (provided it does not crash your system immediately).
Cheers

Thx srek, so basically if it works without crashing to begin with then there are no real downsides to it
Is there a good website walkthrough on how to do it?
There is not much to it. You have to open the boot.ini file on your c: drive, duplicate the boot menu entry and add /3GB to one of them. The duplicate is needed in case the new option crashes your system, without it you would have a hard time making it boot again.

ive had to disable the 3GB hack. For some reason, within 5 or 10 mins of using my web browser with the hack enabled, all my web pages become unavailable. applications like messenger and bittorrent are still working but firefox and IE seem to develop problems.
Now that it has been disbled, alll seems back to normal.
Anyone have any clues?

Nope, usually if its causing a problem, its all or nothing. Machine refusing to boot, everything crashing etc
