View Full Version : Project management?
Nichod 04-04-2007, 02:34 PM I have a large project in the works. Some of the scenes completed so far have a large number of objects/models. For example, a child's bedroom: bed, bedding, window, walls, lights, various furniture, doors, etc. What tips does anyone have on importing a large number of models into Messiah? Is there a way to import all files from a single folder? The models are from Silo. Any tips anyone can provide at all are appreciated.

Is this to render within messiah or as an environment to get placing correct for CA animation?

I'm sure if you really wanted to you could write a perl script or equivalent to parse the directory and create/edit your .fxs file... but you're only doing it once right? I like easy solutions; Just multi-select the objects for import and move on.
Running perl on windows: http://www.extropia.com/tutorials/winperl/
I just noticed messiah supports drag-and-drop from Explorer to import .obj files. Nice!

Really? hmm. Neat. I'll have to try that.
One frustrating thing I'm still having is my display issues because of my crappy video card (laptop). Its frustrating not being able to see the lights in certain views without changing the view ability of other objects in a scene. But I'm getting there.

Wait until you have to manage the materials, shaders, etc...

shhh. Don't ruin it for me. I did just watch one of the cosman mini-tutorial cds and I'm impressed by the setup system. I can see easily building a rig, saving it as a setup and reusing it. One thing I am curious about is whether motion clips created for one rig will work smoothly with the same rig, repositioned and scaled on a different character, or will they distort because of scaling differences?
I didn't even realize you could shift/ctrl click and messiah would accept multiple imports. And the drag and drop is a nice feature and works perfectly. A big time saver and I smack myself for not trying it.
