Nice work!

My only crit is the background looks windy, but hair and flags look stationary...

Ya I know what you mean, the dots, etc that made the bg look windy were suppose to be ashes like dust things after a war or battle.. Tried to create a dead and silent scene of the samurai returning to his town after the war perhaps and it's now empty, the traces of war from afar is still carried by the wind.. Anyways it was suppose to be slight drift of wind, and then later maybe because the bg is a big brush strokey/texture the dust got lost in the textures and I just pretend it was texture or however ppl wanted to interpret it... but ya ur right, it does have a windy look it... T_T Thanks for the crit and comment tho!

i like the design elements that you added to the suit and the scabard with the swirls and the faint print on the pants. The only thing that I can see that just doesn't seem "right" is his sword... some reason it looks like a machette and not a samurai sword.

oh I forgot to add that this complete rocks and I am putting it my wallpaper rotation!

Looks great, but maybe flip it around as samurai always wore their swords on their left side.
