Hey all, this is my latest wip, Nävis from the french comic Sillage.
The head was done in about 3/ 3.5 hours. Lots of tweaking to do left, and of course body and equipment to make.
1100 polies: about 300 for the head itself the rest for the hair:)
wish i had a scanner for the concepts i am working from..these are some i found on the net.
Please give me some real criticism , i'm not really used to doing human heads ..and i really want to capture the feel and looks of her ...

I was wondering what is your target polycount because if you are planning on adding detail to the body, u dont need polygons around the eyes especially the hair. You can basically texture those areas in. The eyelids arent necessary. Like I said, it just all depends on your target poly.

thanks cogsOrchish :i am aiming for about 3500 -4000, and i don't know how i could misread it this much but the overall polycount for head + hair is 690 not 1100 :) but of course all this will be tweaked and optimised later.

I might be wrong but it does not look like your mesh is triangulated- I am always forgetting to do that and feeling wildy optimistic about my poly count. If you triangulate then do a poly count that gives you an idea of what the count would be for a gaming model. But as I said I might be wrong about how you are doing the count.

As far as tris in Max, its automatic I believe, you just have to turn it on. U dont need to work under mesh stack, which I believe is very important. Remember, all renderers only render in Tris.
Chaos: You need to adjust the boosoms down a bit. Its too high. Otherwise, keep up the good work. Just work under Mesh not poly in modifier stack.

*update yet again -goin' nuts
modified the poliflow, her head, the boosoms etc , but somehow, the face just doesn't feel right, it's ( compared to my standarts at least) a decent female head , but it just isn't her !!!! i'v been tweaking for hours now and it doesn't get any better, could anyone help me point out what's wrong ? I'm going nuts !!

Good job with adjusting points to make it better. Youre right, theres something wrong with the face. Check out some references online and see whats up. FINEART (http://www.fineart.sk/heads.htm). Usually the cheeks are higher up to give it a woman feel and the jaw a bit slimmer that ends up wide in the gonial angle region, if you know what I mean. A good reference is Natalie Portman. Check out the link for her at fineart.sk.

I think the nostrils need refining. they need to be more rounded off at the base

Well nathalie Portman has a very "fine" (ie gentle, soft), but Navis here has normally a very childish face - wish i could post the pics i'm actually working from ..well anyway, i made the jaw slimmer as you suggested, tweaked the cheeks a bit (normally on the refs i have, the outline of the face after the cheek "goes in" at about the same horizontal level as the nose ..) if you got other comments, please don't hesitate :wavey:
I also tweaked the breast area heavilly.
Overall, it's getting closer to what it's meant to be but not quite there yet !
Please, everyone , don't hesitate to point the problems out.
