It looks really good, but I would render with radiosity and an Area light. It would turn out even better :)

looking very good..
after looking for it for a while, what MIGHT be missing is the right part of the glass sphere being a bit lighter... since its glass after all.
sounds like a job for subsurface scattering.. or just stick a light there.. ;)

Thanks for all your posts !!!
So Soljarag here is a litte explaination on how this picture is done.
I always use a standard three point lightning for texturing my objects (just send a message if you want it).
If the objects looks good on this setup, it looks good in mostly every scene
My three point lightning contains a Main (the only shadow casting light !), Hair and Fill light, the object that needs to be textured is standing on a groove (is groove the right word, if not please send me a mail, don’t want to die to dumb) and somewhere behind the camera is a softbox, just for reflection (luminosity 100 %).
You can see this reflection easily on the top left of the lamp-shade, there is just a reflective polygon there. (outside of the camera view)
I
As the background I used a gradient map (distance to camera) on my groove.
The rendering time is under a minute, resolution 600x800, area lights (just the main light, because of the shadows), antialiasing enhanced low, athlon 1800 with 1 gb ram)
Here is the screenshot…
I think Stimpy is right with his comments, I need to try lightwaves new surface thickness gradient....
Thanxs to everybody

well, I didnt even know about the "soft groove" so you might not want to take my opinion to seriously, (not to mention you got first place)...but i think on the top of the lamp next to the reflection is seems a it washed out, maybe if you turn down the key light it would help to see those beautiful reflections a bit better.
