So after an intensive 2 months getting into Mental Ray (as I am a max/xsi user), I feel I now have a pretty solid base level understanding of the current techniques/technology being used, and how they all work together.
My question regards the new version of Final Render (V1 R2) =
http://cebasusa.com/m_o_v_e_e/R2_QS/R2_QS.html
is it just me, or does this seem to have brought in a slightly new approach to getting the most out of GI in terms of quality and speed trade offs? Specifically with the ability to SEE where antialiasing and photon samples are used in a render, and then tweak thresholds to achieve good results in acceptable turn around times...also the inclusion of their new GI method that produces flicker free renders for animation (again, seemingly in very acceptable render times).
As I said, I am not asking a 'which renderer is best' type question, I am merely trying to find out if these new features in Final Render are impressive to those of you out there with more experience using renderers in production, or just fairly standard features they are spinning to get interest in their product.
Any responses appreciated.
