What is a Dinotopia?

Dinotopia is a fictitious utopian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utopian) place created by author (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Author) and illustrator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illustrator) James Gurney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Gurney). It is the setting for the book series with which it shares a name. Dinotopia is an isolated island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island) inhabited by shipwrecked humans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human) and sentient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentient) dinosaurs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinosaur) who have learned to coexist peacefully as a single symbiotic society.

What is a HYPER REVIEW topic?

This specific thread has been picked to be an educational thread.
The idea is that artists will be able to get feedback from fellow Artists
and will be able to perfect their technique.

Here are the general rule for this type of topic:

An artist who post their post their images, is expected to give at least ONE feedback on any artists who preceded them.
Artists CAN post revisions to their pieces. But is has to be on the SAME posting
and only the FINAL piece is eligible for voting.
Paintovers by other artists are encouraged.
The criteria for review should be along the lines of:

Composition
Theme
Color
Style
Anatomy
Technique

Bulling and smugness are not acceptable behaviors, so please keep the comments positive and informative. If someone steps over the line, please drop me a PM, ill take care of it.

These are the general rules:

You have NO TIME LIMIT for your sketch. IF you go beyond the assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread. (Note this rule is void on a Hyper Review thread)
Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced. (Note this rule is void on a Hyper Review thread)
RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
You can post an entry at anytime for the topic presented on this thead BEFORE the voting thread for THE WEEK has been posted.
The artist also has to post total length of time it took and program used.
Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
The topics will be picked at random from the list on the TOPICS thread >>LINK<< (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php/?t=145003)
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them).
Good Luck

*nervously posts first picture*

About...thirty minutes on Photoshop. It's not very good, some critiques would really be appreciated. I think there's something screwy with the angle.

Storm: for a first pic it's not too bad. Did you use a tablet? I think you can fix the perspective problem by lowering the horizon line. That would give it a lot more depth. Also, the horizon line is going to be perfectly flat. I'm sure it's not just because you are getting used to the media. Good luck though and hope to see some improvements!

Dinotopia was like my favorite book when I was a kid. Here's mine. A little under an hour.

>_> i suppose this thread is still open to posting..so here goes

first, comments-
stormchylde -bearing in mind what the-13 has said, i can't add much but to say that when doing complex landscapes reference is your friend. not necessarily to copy, but to study for information on forms, values and colours. keep going :)

the-13 -really i like it, i think perhaps you could get that dino-bridge (great idea btw!) to read better, perhaps you could have chosen a more advantageous perspective to help the viewer, but aside from that i like the vibrancy and mood, the brushwork and the sense of scale :D

mine. about 2hrs i think:

Lovely sketch, audit! I love the detail on the trees and how the rest sketch is so simple and serene.
