View Full Version : Instancer Plug-in
cjberg 04-01-2007, 04:22 AM Beta releasing the first of many plug-ins, called "Instancer". This plug in is XP based for creating and controlling instances of objects.
What it does:
This plug in creates "X" number of instancers of child object(s)
How it works:
It provides channels(position/rotation/scale) for these children so that XP can position, rotate or animate them. (An example: http://homepage.mac.com/bergcj/movs/iris.mp4 )
New: This version allows for the default offset position/rotation/scale to be edited(and animated).
The plug-in 6.6, and later. At this time it is only OS X.
Download for 6.6: http://homepage.mac.com/bergcj/tutorials/instancer_6_6.zip
The plug-in 6.5 (untested prior). In this version, XP support is not as robust as in 6.6, but the support is included. At this time it is only OS X.
Download for 6.5: http://homepage.mac.com/bergcj/tutorials/instancer_6_5.zip
The plug-in is still in beta form. I guess I dont know how useful it is, and feedback would be helpful.

Thank you very much for such a nice tool, Cj.
I have downloaded 6.5 version and find it very useful :-)
Only one thing I have noticed: seems like SCALE is somewhat broken on this version. If you leave it as 1.0 all works properly. But I have discovered that 1.1 and 1.5 give you the same results (and 0.5 comparing to 0.9, for example):

Anyway, thanks again for this nice gift :-)
All the best.

Thank you for catching that. It only occurred when first adding the plug-in, editing the settings were fine.
I have updated the plug-in with the fix.

WOW! This plugin is GREAT! Not only is it fast, it works AND is animatable...try rotating your base object and see what happens! THEN try animating the scale within the plugin interface... AWESOME possibilities here.
One thing I noticed though, I tried to duplicate an instance of the plugin and it gave me 'cannot generate model' errors. I then tried to add another fresh instance, duplicated my child object from the first instance, linked it to the fresh instance and got the same error. I am trying to setup a mirrored version of my first instance. Will the plug allow for more than one instance in a project?
Thanks a LOT for such a cool plugin!

Hi Cj,
Yes.. your plugin has potential! :) I get the same problem when trying to duplicate the instancer plugin. It seems that it doesn't like creating a duplicate when the names of the child models are the same as the previous instance. I had to use a new instance of Instancer along with a renamed duplicate of the child in order to get it to work.. but hey.. not that big of a deal.
You'll be happy to know that its already showing capability with Paralumino products too. :)

I have heard this issue with other plugins. It doesnt make sense that the objects need to be a different name, but I am sure I will find a solution shortly.
Thank you very much for taking a look. It is very hard to write & test.

Quick note: this will always be a free plug-in.
