yeh off to a cracking start.. but what other software have you had experience with? these don't look like a complete noob's efforts, so i'm pretty sure you've used sommat b4
as for crits... none really... cos they're pretty early in the offing... just wondering if you're using plenty of ref material for both the head and car?

I've used Softimage|XSI but I've never really modeled anything interesting. This is my first attempt at the human head and the car.
In softimage the only thing i got around to doing was an alien (big head with small arms n legs sticking out of it), and aliens are really easy to do cuz you can do whatever you want and get away with them.
As for these models, I didn't use any reference images, because of mainly 2 reasons:
1. My freehand drawing is pretty bad, so i prefer to draw straight from my head.
2. I don't know how to use the backdrop feature yet. Did i mention 15 hrs only? :)
So the car is my own creation.. if it resembles some actual brand do let me know.
cheers

if you've used Xsi b4 what made you start using Lightwave, i don't have anything against it.. but Xsi is clearly superior :D
but i would say that.. cos i use it all the time.. i'm doin my first head at the mo as well... but using a couple of photos as a references.. WIP head (http://www-scm.tees.ac.uk/users/group1/dave/new_renders/man_head_WIP4.jpg)
the backdrop feature...i'm guessin that's the same as the rotoscope options in xsi? yeh you should figure that out
at first glance i thought the car looked a bit like a Mazda Mx5, but now i look at it... it doesn't at all
XSI superior? Can you tell me why this is.....just curious:shrug:

Remi... I was being Biased... just having a laugh!:D
basically whilst i was at uni.. the software there was Xsi [and soft 3d] so that's what i taught myself.. Now i've finished uni and i'm all up for learning the other ones
it's just my personal fav .. at this moment, i'm lookin forward to learning Maya and Max, cos they're industry favourites..

Looking good, at lot better than my first attempts
the backdrop is under the display properties
Press D then select backdrop and then the view you want to use TR (Top Right) BL (Bottom Left) etc
then load the image using the drop down menu and setup your contrast etc and there ye go
Good luck

I'm using LW because my school uses LW. :D And i suppose it's good to know as many softwares as possible.
Well i won't really get into the xsi vs lw debate.. alot has already been said in other threads. But, in my opinion XSI seems to bring a well rounded solution to everything thats' required.
Simple things like having access to edges can speed up the workflow.
LW seems to depend a lot on plugins which isn't the case with xsi. Things like crowd simulation and AI using Behaviour.
And how do you beat the seamless integration of mentalray into the sicore engine. (interactive render)
Then you have an individual operator stack for each object in the scene.
The scripting engine takes in javascript/vb so no 'new' scripting has to be learned.
Although I'm not experienced in LW at all but i've yet to find a quick way of previewing my models without taking them into Layout.
i know that there has to be something to LW since it's very heavily used in the industry, and well i intend to find out :D
maybe there's a reason why XSI is soo much more expensive than LW.
oh another thing.. XSI subdivisioning is extremely fast, even on my 1.4 GHz machine i can play easily around with 500,000+ poly meshes.
But like i always say.. you use something for a couple of years you start believing in it... so i've had my go at XSI, and now it's LW's turn.
p.s. Remi i just saw your head tutorial, it's great :D
p.p.s what would be the best way to texture models in LW ? any tutorials anyone?
