View Full Version : Character Studio problems
jnglemeat 04-01-2002, 05:36 AM Hey everyone,
i m having troubles with Character Studio. whenever i try to edit my footsteps animation or freeform (like moving keys, or refining the animation) Max starts to lag, it will freeze for a minute or so come back to normal and do that over and over.
my question is , has anyone else expirienced a problem like this? i doubt its a hardware problem , im running Max on PIII 450, 384SdRam and plenty of hard disk space.
Any suggestions or solutions, i greatly appriciate it. thanks

perhaps your character has too many polys? or does it also happen if you only got your biped without a mesh linked to it?
which version of max/cs do you use? maybe you should get an update?

max is at 4.26, which fixes a number of issues. It's a good place to start, otherwise Autodesk tech support call might be in your future.

There is a patch if you are using MAX 4.26. Scroll down to the Character Studio files and download CS 3.21.

The patch above fixes this specific problem, by the way. It is addressed in the readme as quoted below.
"Moving and setting keys will no longer cause chronic user interface freezing in Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or higher."

Thank you Ibanezhead, i went and got the 4.2 update, then the 4.26 and the CS 3.21 . and it seems it fixed my problems, for now , ill have to play around with it for couple of days , make sure everything is okay. I created a simple footsteps animation with freeform inbetween and started editing the keys and max was not freesing as it did before, thanks :)
