View Full Version : High-Resolution Morning & Evening Skyboxes
Eudaimic 03-07-2003, 03:04 PM Hey,
Since each skybox is 6 jpeg's of 1200x1200, I won't bother putting them up here, but you can download them from my site. Consider this a 'weee, I got 300 posts'-present :applause:

You're all welcome, thank you for the kind words.
Will we get to see some of those test renders anytime soon? :)

You mean are they for a specific program, or are they for a specific project?
They're not for any specific program, whichever program that can handle a cube-mapped environment will do.
As for projects, you can read more on my site which is continually updated as I move forward on the projects these were made for.
Hey, these might become useful. Thanks a lot. :applause:

Really cool! Thanks, Eudaimic!
And as you asked for tests... here (http://www.geocities.com/gods_left_leg/tower-top_2.jpg) is a small one. (it's geocity webspace, you'll probably have to copy&paste it.)

No problem guys :) (considering the amount of textures and whatnot I've nicked over the years, it's about time I gave a little back.
Nice test shot there! I love zeppeliners, they're the coolest vehicle known to man! :)

Hi....and thanks alot for the sky textures....If anybody using max wanna know how it can be used....
-First creat a cube with 3 width and height segments
-do a flip normal
-now apply the the textures on the side of the cube (front on front segments...) you might have to rotate some of the textures in the materiale editor or just rotate your uvwmap modifier
-now add a spherify modifier to your cube and you'll have yourselft a neat sky-sphere

Either do that, or go to Rendering -> Environment, make a new Environment Map (click 'use map' and click the NONE bar).
Then choose reflect/refract. Open the material editor and drag the reflect/refract bar from the environment dialouge onto a material slot in the mat. editor. Choose instance when it asks you.
Now in the mat. editor change source from Automatic to From File.
Click one of the file slots and find the corresponding skybox .jpg file. For instance you click UP and you find morning_up.jpg. That should automatically load all the files up.
I suggest you turn off the blur settings for the reflect/refract material, no need for it.
Though if you're using it as an environment "reflection" map, then it can be quite good to use. I use it with a blurring of 50 on a chrome material in my scene.
Also, if you want your scene to 'fog' with the environment map you just add a fog atmosphere effect in the environment dialouge and then you drag the material from the mat. editor onto the Environment Color Map in the Fog Properties and check Use Map.
Voila.
You can now move your camera anyway you want and it'll stay rocksteady.
Also by setting up the atmosphere settings on your camera you can have objects like planes and what have you properly fade out over distance.
