View Full Version : Supershader's.... or not...
Pixel2 03-31-2007, 12:26 AM Hi!
I have one question on shaders.
I have a layout of a box to a product all made in illustrator. Then I've mapped the artwork to the 3d box. But now I've made a mask "alpha" where do I need to apply a metalic paint. Naturaly I wanted to use a Danel shader, and pick this alpha and apply over the artwork material.
But... I've found that this shader does not support alpha.. does anyone knows how do I resolve this?
Or how do I make metal like danel using a simple shader.
Best to you all!

Use the lumas shader in the luminance channel of your normal material (the turn off the color and specular channels and put a fresnel gradient in your refleciotn channel to complete the effect). The only thing that can't be recreated in the standard material from the "volumetric" materials is anisotrophic reflection.

Just make your graphic a separate alpha material and apply to region

Per-Anders, once more thanks for your help! I've asked before, but here it goes again. Is there some kind of tutorial of each of the shaders?
Thanks!
David, the problem is that I want to apply the metal like a overprint. Thanks anyway.

You could renderout the alpha pass separate and use it on the metal layer in post.
In other words you render out 3 passes:
One of the box with the underlying material.
One of the box and bg in black and the print in white.
One of the box in the danel material.
Alt. 2 is to use Davids idéa but with the overprints alpha inverted.

AAAron..... I'm a newbi in C4D, how do I do that thing that you do..." looks like a lyric to a song"...
Can you please tell me? I will have some works that your technique will be very useful.
thanks in advance
bruno
why not put the metalic paint unter the other art work (as first material) and use the inverted alpha for the artwork (as second).

First technique:

The other one is to let the box material be on top of the danel material an have a alpha that punch a hole in the box material to show the danel material under.

AAAron,
Correct. Just reverse what I'd shown.
Your example is spot on :)
Edit:
Using an alpha, with the graphic, you can adjust the reflection
channel and anistrophy in the lumas channel. This method
does not use photoshop other than to bring in the label art.
