View Full Version : gl or d3d
my card is winfast A250 LE TD MyViVo (geforce 4 ti 4200 128 mb ddr)
but i dont like the viewport performance especially in shaded mode when snap is on.
but in fact i didn't try opengl much acuse i thougt that d3d would make a better performance - is gl better?
and i also didnt try the package that Nvidia has released for further control in viewports.

GL normally and d3d for viewing models destined for a games engine. Personal choice really.

Yup. I've always found OpenGL to be the better performer. I have usually experienced lock-ups/complete crashes when using D3D in the past. Haven't bothered testing it out with DX9, tho'.
how about directx 9 - the magazines say they dont recommend it unless you have a geforce fx or radeon 9700...

ive read in various places that direct x 9 is not that great and has some compatibilty problems with some cards. new things arnt always the best till theyve been out for a while.
i think there are some threads already discussing it in hardware and other sites.
im not well up on direct x

I think you'll find OGL is considered by most "the right choice". Some uses D3D, but I think even then a significient procentage of that group uses it only because OGL is somehow causing problems.
MAX likes GL at any rate.
